EXCUSE ME, WHAT IS A BEESWAX WRAP?

Great Question!!

Welcome, My name is Mai I am the founder of Nnul Workshop, I love to help people on their plastic-free journeys while I also navigate my sustainability journey.

I have a market stall every Saturday morning at the famous Nelson Market, when I started my small business I was constantly asked... What is a Beeswax Wrap ??

Roll on and after 6 years the public is definitely more educated, but I am still always happy to explain to the uninitiated.

Beeswax food wraps are a natural alternative to single-use traditional plastic food wrap. Made with our hand-crafted blend of natural ingredients including 100% cotton, NZ beeswax, damar tree resin and coconut oil, the wraps are naturally antibacterial and totally reusable.

Beeswax wraps are amazing, they are not only eco-friendly, natural, and reusable they are also bio-degradable so you can also compost it or cut it into strips and pop it in your worm farm at the end of its life.

DO YOU MAKE ALL THE WRAPS?

Yes!  All of Nnul Workshops beeswax wraps are made by Mai in Nelson, New Zealand.

HOW DO I USE MY BEESWAX WRAP?

Easy! Use the warmth of your hands to shape the wrap around your food. The wraps are amazing for cheese, vegetables, fruits, snacks or anything you would normally wrap in plastic food wrap.

Avoid raw meat as the wraps can't be washed in hot water.

WILL MY FOOD TASTE LIKE HONEY?

Although you can smell the gorgeous subtle beeswax aroma, this will diminish over time. Amazingly the scent does not transfer to your food.

IS IT MADE OUT OF PAPER ??

NO-Our wraps are made with our hand-crafted blend of natural ingredients including 100% cotton, NZ beeswax, damar tree resin and coconut oil, the wraps are naturally antibacterial. The cotton fabric is washed before it goes to the waxing process.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY BEESWAX WRAP?

I recommend hand washing in cold water with a little detergent and a soft clean cloth, then pop it over your dish rack to dry or blot it carefully with a tea towel.

Generally do not use hot water as this can cause the beeswax to melt off, meaning your wrap will not last as long.

WHERE DO YOU KEEP THEM?

Well, that is up to you!

I have mine in my kitchen drawer with my clean tea towels, just make sure to keep your wraps away from heat and direct sunlight.

HOW LONG WILL MY BEESWAX WRAP LAST?

Wraps will last up to a year or more depending on care and use. If you take good care of your beeswax wrap it can last even longer. I have happy customers coming back for new wraps after two years.

CAN I PUT MY BEESWAX WRAP IN THE FRIDGE OR FREEZER?

Yes, Wrap your food as per usual, and put it in the freezer or fridge. Just remember if you have frozen your wrap, let it defrost a bit before you unwrap the food to prevent cracking the wax coating.

 LASTLY...ADVANTAGES OF BEESWAX WRAPS

  • You can feel good knowing you are doing your part to reduce single-use plastics
  • Antibacterial and anti-fungal properties keep your food fresher for longer
  • Natural, eco-friendly, non-toxic and no nasty PBA plastics.

DID I MISS ANYTHING?

Hopefully, that covers most of the usual FAQ, I still get a few surprises now and then which I enjoy!  Feel free to ask me any wrap-related questions on my Facebook page @nnulworkshop
Let's get wrapping!
